Iain has been appointed as the Composer-in-Residence of the Jaguar Land Rover Band, a championship section contesting brass band based in the UK Midlands. This was confirmed shortly after the 2020 Area Contest, where Iain had recently taken up the solo baritone seat under the leadership of Musical Director Brad Turnbull. Although banding was halted due to the Coronovirus pandemic, Iain has continued to write and is very much looking forward to working with the band on a number of compositions and other musical projects when we are allowed once again to grace the rehearsal rooms and concerts halls with our music.

A new commission for solo euphonium

Iain has been commissioned to write a new piece for solo euphonium for Micah Dominic Parsons. Micah, who is a student of Steven Mead and currently principal euphonium of the Jaguar Land Rover band, is planning to record and album in the near future. He asked Iain to write a solo featuring Celtic music, a genre which is close to Micah's heart. The piece is entitled 'A Celtic Rhapsody' and features three traditional Irish tunes and is a tour de force for euphonium and band. Micah is pleased with the finished result and is looking forward to trying it out with the band once we are out of lockdown.

In addition, Iain was able to arrange a euphonium duet for Micah and Steven Mead during lockdown called 'Reflection' which is taken from a larger-scale work Barbican (which is available from our Store page).

New works are pending

Iain has been spending some time over the course of the last year writing new music for brass band. As well as the pieces mentioned on this page, there is a new three-movement concert work and a substantial work which Iain has refererred to as 'his Opus' for Championship section brass bands. Both pieces are yet to be named, but we are very much looking forward to the launch of both of these pieces later on this year. So, watch this space and all will soon be revealed.

A new baritone solo

Over the course of enforced COVID lockdown, Iain was able to spend some time composing and has written a new solo for bartione and band. The piece is called Under An Open Sky and is a beautiful slow melody in which the soloist intertwines with the band in melodious fashion and features obligato passages that can really set the soloist off in a demonstration of range and tone. The solo is available for £24.95 and is available from our Store page. You can also listen to a sample on our Listen page.

Fanfare for Coventry

Iain has written a new piece which is to be featured by the trumpet fanfare team of the Jaguar Land Rover Band. The piece, called Fanfare for Coventry is to commemorate the city's celebration of being the UK City of Culture in 2021 and it is hoped the fanfare will be featured at post-lockdown concerts and events throughout 2021.
